Birchbox Product Review; 3x Pukka Organic Teas

These were a bonus item for me in the November 2013 Birchbox. I was super excited to get them as I love a good cup of tea and I’m always looking to try new ones as I find fruit/flavoured teas to be very hit or miss – often, I find, they taste of nothing. Zilch. Nada. Oh, wait was that some flavour? No, false alarm, no flavour here.
I think I mentioned in my overview that I drank the Earl Grey within about ten minutes of the box arriving; I figured I’d start with the most pedestrian first and work up. I love Earl Grey and have tried many, many different ones but this one was right up there with the best. Very flavourful and even after leaving the bag to infuse for quite a while (I might have gotten distracted playing with the cat…), it had none of that bitter edge I find Earl Grey can often have.
I then tried the Elderberry and Echinacea tea. I expected this to taste of not much to be honest, but I was very wrong. It has a lovely taste; fruity but not overly sweet. It’s comforting and very natural tasting – I’m definitely looking to buy a box of these, it’s a fantastic, warming tea for this time of year.
And lastly, just now in fact, I’m drinking the Three Cinnamon tea. I was more than a little apprehensive about this. I love the smell of cinnamon, and I love the taste of cinnamon you know, with chocolate or something else yummy… but just pure cinnamon on its own? Wouldn’t that be like drinking a Christmas candle? The smell through the packet was also off-putting, it was very, very strong. Fortunately the tea itself doesn’t smell as strongly and the taste, well, I was very wrong. This is a great tea; it does very clearly taste of cinnamon, but not in a hugely overpowering way like cinnamon chewing gum does. It’s very refreshing, which I found surprising given how warm and wintery the taste is. Also, it has a great level of sweetness for me; sweet enough that I don’t need to eat a biscuit with it (damn it), but not so sweet it’s like drinking Calpol. I’m surprised to hear myself say it, but I would repurchase these! Who knew cinnamon tea was so yummy?!
So yeah, just a quick review today, I hope you’ve enjoyed it. Do you drink any non-standard teas? Which do you like and why?
