My December Birchbox has Arrived - Contents and Thoughts!

Bonjour Beautifuls!
Firstly, I'm sorry I haven't been around the past couple of days. It has not been a good couple of days. I was going to come on and say something like, "work has been crazy!" or, "You know what this time of year is like", but the reality is those would be lies, and I don't want to present my self (even if it is only to one or two readers) as a liar. The reality is, I'm not having the best of times at the moment, across the board, and the past few days have been rough and I've been crying a lot - which, for me, doesn't inspire much beauty product usage or reviewing. So, there. It's a new day, so let's move on...

So, on that cheerful note, let's dive into my December Birchbox. Firstly, I have to say, I wasn't overjoyed with the packaging. I've seen pictures of the Glossybox for December and it looks so stinkin' cute and festive, and then Birchbox arrived and I was like, um, have they looked at a calendar recently? I know a lot of you are probably rolling your eyes thinking, what does the box matter, and I know it's hardly a critical issue, but it does matter a little to me. I mean, if you're taking the time to design the box, why would you not do a festive design? Anyway, let's actually get inside the box shall we. This is the 3rd box of my 12 month subscription and I have to say, I'm loving the contents which are:

- Number 4, non-aerosol hairspray 43ml
- Nail Rock, nail velvet (full size)
- Twistband, one twistband
- Delarom, Aquaconfort Mask, 15ml
- Alima Pure, Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow
- Korres, Citrus Showergel

Now I know that not everyone will feel the same, but for me, this box is basically a win all over. Sure, the hairspray I'm not going wild for, but I will use it and even that aside, it's still a good box. Well rounded I feel. You have a makeup product, some nail varnish, a hair accessory, a bathing product, a facial mask and a hair product. That's more balanced than I've felt past boxes are.

Also, although the packaging may not scream HO HO HO, I think the contents are certainly December appropriate, I mean, they've included what is possibly the world's most sparkly eyeshadow - and they've had the common sense to supply it in a neutral, rather than a freaking luminous blue - and, hello, velvet coated nails, when is that decadence appropriate if not at Christmas.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to using almost everything, and I will report back with anything of interest. I may give the shower gel to the boyfriend - not because  don't love it (because I seriously, seriously do), but because it has quite a masculine smell and frankly, I have enough LUSH soap to see me to retirement, and I'd hate to see this stuff lying around in a drawer.

What did you get in your Birchbox? What do you think of the December box? How does it face up to its competitors?
