Maybelline The Rocket Volum' Express Mascara | Review

So, this mascara has already made it into my January Beauty Favourites, so I guess it's no secret that it's somewhat of a positive review! However, I will resist the urge to gush and shout my joy from the roof tops and instead let's try and look at things objectively.

I purchased (or rather my lovely sister purchased for me) the black, non-waterproof version. This is the version I always buy of mascaras as my eyes get easily irritated by waterproof versions - maybe I'm just insane, or maybe it is some ingredient specific to them, but either way my eyes do get really sore and so I only wear waterproof when I absolutely need to. The mascara costs £7.99 and is frequently on offers - like just now, Maybelline is buy one get one half price in Boots. So this is a pretty budget friendly mascara.

Packaging wise, I really like it. It's a different shape from any other product I own, which is very handy when I'm frantically rummaging around my hand bag, ten minutes late and mascaraless - it makes it easier to find in there. I also think it's pretty freaking cute, although I suppose that's really here nor there.

Anyway, cute packaging aside, I really like the application of this. It does what it says, it gives impressive volume with very, very little work. Does this give me the biggest lashes of any mascara? No. Does it do amazing things in one coat? Yes. I don't need to build this up, or re-coat, it's the perfect mascara for lazy people people always on the go.

Maybellien The Rocket Volum' Express Mascara brush

Here's the really surprising thing about my love for this mascara... it's a plastic brush. Or whatever we call non-fibre ones, and normally, I don't like them at all. I think everyone has a preference one way or another, but normally I find plastic ones useless. But not this one, it holds the product really well and applies smoothly, without over application.

Maybellien The Rocket Volum' Express Mascara on my eye

And here's what it looks like on my lashes - for the record, to try and show the product properly, it's the only makeup I'm wearing. I have to emphasise again, that this is really just one super fast application. With more coats it does more, but for me, one coat was all I needed - I like the way it looks. It stays put really well, no panda eyes, and it doesn't clump, flake or irritate - and I have really sensitive eyes. It gives my eyes a really great 'open' look and frames them really well.

The only downside, and I hesitate to mention it because I think the problem is me, not the product, but the only downside for me is that I seem to poke myself in the eye with the brush a lot! I know, that's probably an incompetence on my part, but it's not something I regularly encounter with other mascaras, so maybe it is something to do with this brush. But it's a small price to pay and I think I'm getting better at the whole thing, hopefully.

So yeah, this is my favourite new mascara, what's yours? Have you used this product? What do you think of this product?

    1. I'm the same; I think overall the High Street does really well with mascaras and I'm not sure I'd ever pay for a high end one, but who knows. Thanks for reading. :)
