Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils

** This post was updated slightly in October 2017, to correct some typos and some links which were now non-functional**

Today I wanted to show some love for a long time favourite product - it's the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, which currently retail for £15.50 each, but are often available in sets - of either full or mini size pencils - which can work out to pretty good value for money.

I've been using these in a variety of colours for many years, in fact, they were some of my first 'proper' make up purchases when I was about 14 - and, frankly, I've never found an eyeliner I prefer more since.

Urban Decay Black Market Eye Liners

In this posts I'm looking at two different sets which were available at the time of initially writing this (Holiday Season 2013); the sets were the Black Market mini pencil set and the Ocho Loco set - neither of which are available now.

So, looking at the pencils in general, they have a lot going for them. They're very waterproof, smudgeproof and fadeproof (those are words... ahem). I apply them in the morning, waterline, lower lash line and eyelid, and there they will remain. All day. Now I'll admit to having the driest, least oily skin of all time, so I know that helps out a bit with make-up wear time - but even aside from my personal skin formulation, the Urban Decay eyeliners are praised the (blog) world over for their durability.

Left to Right:
Riot// A deep blue toned purple
Desperation// A mauve toned grey
Apathy// a blue toned moss green
Lust// a more vibrant pink toned purple
Ink// a cool "denim" blue
West// a chocolate brown

Looking at the Black Market set first - it's six travel size pencils (Colours listed above) that are honestly, practically perfect colours for me. It's the reason I bought the set. Often I find that, due to the wide range of colours they produce, there's usually one or two in a set that 'just aren't for me'. Not in the Black Market set. They're all fantastic, smokey, almost grungy (but in the BEST way possible) shades, that I am just in love with. I literally sit and stare at them for ages. My precious.

 Top to Bottom:

My most worn is probably Desperation, a mauve-toned grey that's not too dark for casual eyes and not so light it's invisible. it really pops my hazel eyes too. It's what I wear on days wear I'm not really wearing makeup. a little smudge of it on my eyelid, and some mascara and boom, I look awake. They've been fantastic during this exceptionally  wet Scottish winter too, as they don't start to run down my face after a few minutes outside.

My least worn is definitely Ink. Remember how I said that there wasn't one I didn't like in this set... well, that's true, but this one is definitely sitting closer to that camp. It's not him, it's me. I just don't really do blue eye makeup - I just never feel I suit it? However, this little fella has forced me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to give blue another shot.

Urban Decay Ocho Loco Eye Liners

Moving on to look at the Ocho Loco 2 set. It contains 8 full size pencils in the colours Roach (a copper colour), Twice Baked (a darker, more blue based brown), Crave (a very dark grey/brown), Perversion (very black), Deep End (turquoise), Mars (moss green), Ultraviolet (cyan blue) and Tornado (dark purple), and also an eye liner sharpener, which I think is a nice touch.

Whereas Black Market contains very wearable, neutral colours; these are definitely a bit more 'out there' - but in a good way. The only one I'm unsure I'll really wear at all is Deep End - I just have no idea what look to do it with, but I'd welcome any suggestions! Being a blue, Ultraviolet will require a bit more will power to wear - having to leave *dun, dun, duuuunnnn*... my comfort zone. But then that's a good thing.

Like I said, this set is newer, but even so, I think a clear favourite has already been established: Twice Baked. I love this. It's very warm, but not too pink - which is good as I often think pink around my eyes makes me look so tired. It's a little shimmery which makes it seem less intense for day wear, and it goes brilliantly with my Naked Basics palette.

So to recap;
- I love Urban Decay eyeliners
- I've bought enough in the last month to last me probably a couple of years!
I hope you've enjoyed reading a bit about my love for them, I'm curious to know if you use them, and if so... what colour is your favourite?
