What's In My February 2014 Birchbox

It took forever for my Birchbox to arrive this month - I don't think their couriers like me! Anyway, it did finally arrive and upon opening it, I was pretty happy. It's not the best box I've ever got, but I much prefer it to the January box, so that's good. Anyway, stop waffling Kitty, what did you get?!

Ta-dah! This was the site that greeted me as I opened my Birchbox- first thoughts were that a) it was a good selection and b) they've gone back to using the little drawstring bags which I like. I find them kinda useful for holding things, especially for blog post photo shoots. For example right now I have one with "empties" in it, one with "Feb faves" in it and one with "March nail ideas" in it. They're useful.

So first impressions were that the packaging looks like the kind of stuff you get in a hotel bathroom. It doesn't scream 'high end' to me. Smell wise, I like it,  but it's not extraordinary or anything to write home about in my opinion. I haven't used mine yet but my mum has (she also gets Birchbox) and she says it smells lovely and strong in the shower, but she didn't feel the smell lingered on her skin as much as her usual - Molton Brown.
Not a huge amount to say about this one as I haven't tried it yet. It's a protective hair oil and it comes in a cute little glass bottle (which makes it feel so much more luxurious than plastic).  I don't love the smell (but obviously that's just my preference), it smells very sweet and artificial to me.

I love nail varnishes, and I love trying new ones in beauty boxes. This is a colour unlike anything else I own, or in fact, unlike anything I've ever seen! It's a shimmery blue/green/grey and it really is so unique. It's such a flattering colour on me as well, which as pretty as the bottle was, I have to admit I wasn't expecting!

Don't really love the packaging on this one, it's pretty cheap looking, other first impressions are that it doesn't have an overpowering smell (it's just nice and clean) and that while I'm sure I'll enjoy using it, there's no way I'd repurchase at that price point!

I do enjoy experimenting with new makeup and I have been working on my cat flick liner lately (you haven't seen any of that, as it's not been going well! I can always get one!!) I really like what I've seen of this liner so far; it's incredibly 'black' and the nib on it is fantastically slim and delicate, yet firm enough that it doesn't flop or move around.

I always like the little extras Birchbox adds in, and this one is no exception. A lovely little sweet treat (although actually not that sweet due to the high cocoa contents!) to munch on while checking out the rest of the goodies.

So like I said, overall I think it's a pretty good box. I worry I've sounded kinda 'down' on it, but I think that more and more I'm realising that this beauty box thing just isn't for me. Next month marks the halfway point in my 12 month subscription and so I think I'll do a bit of a reflective post on what I think of the products and service so far. But for now, thanks for reading!

  1. I love the Eyeko eyeliner, it is amazing :)

  2. I'm excited by it too! I haven't played around with it a whole lot - and to be frank, I'm still pants with liquid eyeliner but I feel this could be the one to help me learn! Thanks for reading and commenting!
