My Valentines Day Makeup Look

So, truthfully, I'm not a Valentines kinda gal. I generally fall in the 'let's not let the flower and chocolate companies tell us that if we don't buy pink gifts today, we clearly don't love our other half ' camp, but, on the other hand, when you're busy as a couple, maybe it's kinda nice to have an excuse to take a night off from real world stuff and have to do something fun together? I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

Either way, my makeup look was never going to be the typical pink eyeshadow look - I've seen lots of tutorials of this and don't get me wrong, people look beautiful, but pink eyeshadow makes me look like I'm crazy tired... or high. Either way, not a great look. So my chosen look is a bit more edgy, but still has a pink pop - only mine is lip focused.

So I'm not typically a foundation wearer, but for this look I did as I wanted a very even facial base so as to allow the lips to 'pop' more. I chose to use Posietint as opposed to  a creme or powder blush as I wanted a subtle, 'from within' kind of glow rather than a more obvious layer of makeup.

Eye makeup was just liquid liner on the top and the Stila liner on the bottom - smudged out a bit to soften things. Although it hasn't come across in the photos, the Stila liner has some gold glitter in it, not enough that it screams out you're all sparkly, but enough to soften the look a little, but at the same time, the glitter is a kinda eye catching. I really like it.

I've paired the makeup look with a neutral nail (Barry M Matte Nail Paint in Caramel, review here) and will be wearing a simple black dress; this look is all about attention on the lips - not a bad thing on Valentines Day!

I also worked my brows a little more heavily than I ordinarily would; when you have very dark defined eyes and bold lips in a look, it's easy for the brows to become a little lost. It's good to work them enough so that they can hold their own, but of course, we have to avoid the caveman look.

So that is my chosen Valentines Day look; a lot less sugary sweet and a lot more edgy, but I think it still gets the point across. I would also like to apologise for not being 'in outfit' when I took these shots, it was all very spur of the moment and badly timed with lighting and weather - so just to confirm, my baggy Mickey Mouse t-shirt is not my idea of a seductive ensemble!

This is me attempting a 'grr, I'm badass' face to go with the makeup... can you tell I am the least badass person on the planet. Ever.
