NOTD: Barry M Silk Nail Paint in Heather

This actually doesn't look so good in the photos, I tell ya, I wait weeks for decent daylight to take shots in and then what happens? It washes everything out.... that and I may have had an off day while editing these. Ahem. But let's be British and blame the weather shall we?

so this is the Barry M Silk Nail Paint in Heather, that I picked up (and hauled) aaaaagesss ago on my Birthday in February. When I first saw this silk range I was all over the place on them "YESSSS.... oooooooo or no?.... It's kinda, I love it.... or actually, do I?.... yes?....actually no, I would never wear that.... or would I?" I think you get the picture. In the end I (seeing as how my sister was experiencing the same technical difficulties) I held them up for my boyfriend (who had at this point been held captive in Boots for an extended period of time, bless him) and he declared he loved this one.... or maybe he said, "Why are you asking me? I don't know and I don't care... I'm going back to the car..", either way.

So, I picked this one up, landed on the decision that I didn't like it, and lost it in my room frankly. Then one day, I found it and thought I'd give it a shot. Spoiler alert: I freaking love it. It looks much, much nicer on the nails than it does in the bottle. In the bottle it looks like 'just another' pearlescent, but it's actually pretty distinctive and frankly, massively pretty.

The 'Silk' finish doesn't equate to sparkly; it's almost a matte-esque finish but with a silky shimmer through it. I realise that's about the worst description of anything in the world ever, but that's why we include photos in these things!
Formula wise, it's better than I anticipated. Because it looks so opalescent, I worried it would take like five coats to be opaque from every angle, but actually it only needed two. Truthfully, after taking these photos I put on some Nails Inc Kensington Caviar topcoat, so I can't speak to the wear length really, with a topcoat though, it lasted really well.
In conclusion I love this polish, it reminds me of my '90's Barbies, or the kind of mermaids I would pretend to be when I was a kid (... you did that too.... right?), and I mean that in the best way possible. There's five other colours in the range, and I've already bought Blossom (the pink) and have my eye on maybe even a couple more - while these polishes are unique, they're certainly not gimmicky.
