My July Birchbox

I'm struggling to remember, but I'm pretty sure I skipped doing a 'June Birchbox' post - I received mine really late and everyone and their dogs had already done a post talking about great it was getting a Beauty Blender. I actually debated skipping this month's too; not for the same reasons, but just because I'm kind of 'meh' about it to be honest.

Weleda Millet Nourishing Shampoo 18ml
This shampoo hits two of my Birchbox bug bears; 1) it says very clearly on the front, for normal hair. I do not have normal hair; I have very dry, frizzy hair and Birchbox know this - thanks to the beauty survey. Why send me products that say in very clear type on the front that they won't work for me? and 2) For a shampoo, it's not a big enough sample for me. I'll get one, maybe two washes at a push from this - for me that's not enough to see what something would do for my hair long term.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream 7ml
More positive about this product - it's a much better size of sample, and it's not something I've experimented with lots of. It's also made with 99% natural ingredients which is something that appeals to me. I haven't used it yet so I can't report back, but if it does anything interesting one way or another, I'll be sure to let you know.

Gilchrist and Soames English Spa Sea Kelp Extract Mineral Bath 40ml
This is kind of a cute tube of bath essence/bubbles/stuff - easy to travel with and easy to dispense just the right amount of. It smells relatively generic to me - not bad, but not special either - but then for me bath essence/bubbles/stuff tends to be more about how gentle/kind it is to my skin so I'll guess I'll have to wait until I've used it properly. It's a good sized sample tube though, depending on how much you need to use per bath.

Whish Three Wishes Lavender Body Butter 22ml
Pretty 'meh' about this one, it doesn't seem much special. I love lavender scents so that's a plus, but on the flip side, again, it's too small a sample for me to really get a feel for it. It's free from a lot of the typical nasties we find in these sorts of products so that very much intrigues me, but I highly doubt I'll be able to know much about it after only trying this much product.

LAQA & CO Sheer Lip Lube Pencil in Menatour 2g
This is nice, it's a pretty different colour and, I've used something similar from this company before and was relatively impressed with the quality. You know me, I love a good makeup addition in a beauty box and so it's pretty obvious I was going to be happy with something like this. But to me, this is what beauty boxes are about; getting a sample of something you wouldn't normally buy for yourself and having enough product to play with to really get a feel for it and decide if actually maybe you would buy it in future.

UltraDex Oral Spray 9ml
This was the lifestyle extra this month and yeah, I'm pretty happy at receiving it. It's probably something I would have walked past in the shop a million times without picking up, but actually a good idea. It's breath freshening spray - always handy when you love garlic and cheese as much as I do but also hate chewing gum *shudder*. But this isn't one of those nasty ones that's bad for your teeth - no, this is alcohol and sugar free and is actually good for your teeth. Very handy little product indeed.

And so that's my Birchbox, as you can probably tell from what I've written, I'm kind of unfazed by it. There's nothing that's blown my socks off, but other than the somewhat predictable disappointment of the shampoo, there's nothing much I'm gutted by getting either. I think now that enough time has passed, it's just becoming clear that beauty boxes aren't for me. Sure, there's the excitement of it being like Christmas and getting a box of goodies every month - but on the other hand it's a bit like it being Christmas but only getting presents from people who don't know you at all.
