August Favourites

I know I say it every month, but actually, where has August gone?! Between leaving my job, an immediate family member being in hospital, flat hunting and Florida holiday prep, if I'm honest, trying new makeup has not been a priority and I've just been reaching for 'the usual'. That being said, I do have a few bits an' bobs to mention - but it will be a shorted post than norm, I don't want to force things, or 'pad out' at all. Also, I won't be doing a favourites for September. I'll be in Florida for more than half the month, and I don't wear anything bar mascara over there... so it would be a very short post indeed. Just expect my October favourites to be super awesomely huge.

Starting off in the shower this week shall we? Ooh, err, it's a bit crowded in here! But yes, I have a couple of new shower favourites; firstly I've been loving the Honey I Washed the Kids soap from Lush. I go back to this time and time again, it just smells so good! It's honey-toffee scented and it does smell exactly like you'd imagine that would; it's sweet but very creamy smelling. It's also super gentle on my skin, which is always a bonus. For the record, the bar photographed is not the bar I've been using - that's all gone - this is the new chunk I'm moving onto.

I also bought a new shower, puff, scrub thingy - seeing as how my previous one had become permanently stained with the scent of Soap and Glory's Sugar Crush - and I remember ages ago Essiebutton raved about how good the one's from The Body Shop are. On one hand I thought, really, what could the difference be? but on the other hand, Essie is amazing... and these were 40% off. So I picked up the Olive Green Bath Lily and she was totally right; these are so dense and soft and just so freaking luxurious feeling - next time you need a new one, I definitely recommend trying one from here!

I have a nail polish favourite this month too and it's actually a discontinued colour (Orange Couture) from the Maybelline Forever Strong polish range. Now normally, I try and avoid mentioning products on here that are no longer unavailable as I hate being a tease, but I felt it was OK to show you this one, as actually, I don't even really love the colour - it's the formula I want to talk about. This claims to have 7 day wear, and honestly, I'd given up dreaming that this was an actual possibility. Until this polish. After 7 days it was still perfectly intact, I repainted my nails because I fancied a change. I can't even think of the last time that happened - normally I repaint them because there's more chipped off than is left on the nails! I did use a topcoat (just the Revlon Quick Dry one) but I always do and it never seems to help other polishes last!

I have a couple of lip product favourites, the first of which I'm very proud of. Yup, the first one is MAC Creme Cup and the reason I'm so proud of myself is that when I bought these 'fancy' lipsticks I thought I'd be to scared to ever 'waste' them and would end up keeping them for special occasions - and I'd have been very annoyed with myself for doing that as I never actually go and do anything 'special' so it would just have gathered dust. But instead, I've been wearing this most days, and fall more in love with it each time; the most beautiful pale pinky-nude ever.

My second favourite is from the Rimmel Lasting Finish range and the shade is Birthday suit. It's a kind of bronzey, honey nude and it's just amazing - haven't swatched it here but it's going to be in a FOTD post going up on Sunday, so keep your eyes open for that!. Initially I thought the colour would be pretty unwearable, but actually it works with so many looks! Also, I find a lot of 'long lasting' lipsticks aren't actually all that long lasting (on me anyway) but this one holds up really well - it's a great 'all day' lipstick.

And to finish off I have two eye products to add to my favourites! First up is a new liquid liner love, and it's the Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner Pen Carbon Black Extreme (...and breathe). Normally I prefer liquid or gel liners to the felt pen variety, but this one is so kind of 'wet' that it just seems to work for me. As I think I said before in a post, I'm not sitting here to claim it's solved all my eyeliner problems (I wish), but I get consistently good, frustration free results with it.

And my last favourite for the month is an eyeshadow quad and it's the L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Quad in Infinity Bronze. This is soooooo bronze, it's not like a nude, bronze toned shadow set, it's like full blown metallic bronze - but I like it. It actually works in so nicely that even though it's super fiery and a little out there, it can still look really natural. One issue I have though, is that the shadow fades after about 5 hours and because it started off so POW, it is pretty noticeable. The good news is that it fades pretty evenly and doesn't crease or smudge, so it's easy to touch up.

  1. That Lush soap looks so tempting, I'll have to pick it up on my next visit! Great collection x
