Physicians Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Mascara

While I was undoubtedly looking forward to wandering the aisles of Walmart and being sucked in by pretty packaging and gimmicks, this was one product that was on my 'To Buy' list long before I left the UK. I've heard it mentioned by some bloggers I really trust, and, add to that all the goodness this mascara contains, there was no way I could pass it up.

Firstly, it's hypoallergenic. It achieves this partly by being free from so many nasties, like parabens, and also, 100% of the total product is from natural origin, with 47% being organic - not to mention even the brush is made from easily recyclable materials. To me, this is wondrous - I have crazy sensitive eyes and it's nice to find a product that won't hurt them at all, even during the removal process (of the mascara I mean, not my eyes, clearly) - which, by the way, is a dawdle.

Sound too good to be true? Well OK, there are a couple of trade offs.

In terms of its performance I'd say it was good, not great. It adds some thickness to my lashes, and a little bit of curl and I find things don't get too droopy later in the day, that being said, I don't find it very buildable. It doesn't do much for length and applying more won't fix that; believe me, I've tried every layer combination. Also, if you do apply a few layers, things will start to look clumpy and gloopy up on those lashes.

The other problem I have with this is it transfers from my bottom lashes to my cheeks like crazy, and I mean, I have dry skin, this is the first time I've had this happen! After a couple of hours, I have raccoon eyes, even if I've just been sitting indoors (so no sweating, rain showers or humidity). It's not a great look. So I could either just not apply it to my bottom lashes - but I always have, so I look really naked without mascara on them - or, I could use a different mascara, which, if it's an occasional thing, I'll do, but for me, I find it a bit much when I'm quickly throwing stuff on in the morning.

Given the eco and eye friendliness of this product, I will continue to use it - I like feeling like I'm being gentle on my lashes and I think they seem less dry since I've switched to this mascara. Not sure yet what do do about the raccoon eye, bottom lash thing yet, I guess I'll just have to stop being lazy and use a second mascara!

Have you ever tried this mascara? What did you think of it? Any recommendations for a natural/gentle mascara?
