Amazon.com Haul

Amazon.com haul makeup beauty NYX LORAC Milani

As I mentioned in my Walmart Haul post, even though I was Stateside for a few weeks I was with Kenny and he had already made a lot of compromises (you know, like going to Florida instead of going anywhere else in the world) so it didn't seem fair to also drag him shopping whilst over there, so I settled for a trip to Walmart and an order from Amazon.com. Now, this might sound weird; Amazon is probably not peoples first choice for makeup - but Ulta.com, Target ad CVS won't accept any credit card not registered to a US address, even if you are shipping to a US address and Sephora would only ship to my billing address (which is in the UK and prohibited the shipping of many of the things I wanted..), anyway, I'm pretty happy with what I managed to pick up on Amazon.

First up I have a baked blush from Milani - I actually ordered Dolce Pink but was sent Luminoso instead (and didn't realise until I was back in the UK, I didn't look at them in Florida more than to ascertain that nothing had smashed during shipping). However, I actually love Luminoso  - it's a peachy, bronzery blush that's just so easy to wear and I've had several people say how 'healthy' I look when wearing it (and believe me, when you are as pasty as I am, it's not something you hear often). Also, it's available on Amazon.co.uk for £4.49 (at the time of writing, prices do tend to fluctuate there though!) - so you don't have to be in the States to get your paws on it!

I then chose a couple of palettes from NYX - which it turns out you can get easily in the UK now... oops, when did that happen and how did I miss it?! First, I chose one of their Love in Paris Palettes (which is the top photo above) in the colour/shade/type A La Mode. It's nine eyeshadows in primarily grey tones - which isn't usually my thing but I thought I'd try something a little different, but not, you know, really different. There's a couple of swatches below (photo on the left) and I'd say the quality is OK. A lot of the shades are very similar on, and quite a few are chalky and just not the best pigmented really - I paid £5.50 for mine and I'd say it's good for that, in the UK they're £10, and I'm not sure I'd pay that, not over a Sleek palette for £8 anyway.

I then picked up The Suede Shadow Palette, also from NYX, and this one, as far as I can tell is not available in the UK. I did check reviews on this, and it seemed to do pretty well, but I'm actually not that impressed. I thought the colours were amazing for Autumn - all the golds and reds and greens, and, when I hear of a 'suede palette' I'm thinking a suede finish to the shadows - you know, a velvet almost matte kinda thing. Well nope, as you can see in the photo on the right, below, they're pretty metallic, which I do like, but I really find these exhausting to work with - it takes a lot of shadow to build up colour on the lid, and even then, it's not a very 'strong' look. This cost £8.12, and I wouldn't purchase it again, having swatched and tried it out.

Then we have the LORAC PRO Palette  which, I mean, how could I not get one of these given all the hype that's been around them? I'm happy (and relieved) to report that this totally and utterly lives up to the hype - these shadows are so soft, so rich and so fun to work with, probably the first time I've ever tried and eyeshadow and thought it might be better than Urban Decay's. I have a full post with swatches coming (tomorrow in fact, so be sure to check back), but I swatched a couple of shades above just as an example (It's Gold on the left and Pewter on the right.) This cost me £26, but, they are available in the UK... for significantly more than that. Amazon.com will ship them over here, and the whole thing, including postage and an Import Fees Deposit (which, I'm fairly sure doesn't guarantee to cover customs costs, but I've never had an issue with being charged more when shipping from Amazon.com - do look into it all though, those charges can add up.) will cost you £38, which is a pound more than a Naked palette... I'd seriously consider it. I think this is so worth it; I think the shade range (and the fact it's half matte, half shimmer) and the quality, easily makes it worth the £38 price tag.

I then picked up another LORAC palette which I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention and I have absolutely no idea why. This is the LORAC Skinny Palette in Nude. It cost me $15 (£9.52) and it contains seven beautiful shades (3 matte, 4 shimmer) - it's compact (and OK, the packaging is that cardboard kind I don't love), the shade range is great and the quality is absolutely awesome - so, so glad I picked this up. Again, I'll be doing a full post - so I don't want to go on too much here. Incidentally, Amazon.com will also ship this over here: total cost including shipping (there's no import duty since it cost less than £15) is £14.33 - which again, I would totally consider.

I also obtained a couple of eye primers. The first is a sample (but a big, 5.5g sample) of the LORAC Behind the Scenes Eye Primer which came included with the pro palette - I haven't tried it yet, but based on the quality of their other products, I have high hopes for this. I also bought the NYX HD Eyeshadow Base and basically, given the budget price of £4.44, I figured it was just worth trying as, let's face it, the Urban Decay Primer Potion, costs quite a bit more than that! Haven't tried it yet, but will report back when I do. It is available on the NYX UK website for the slightly less bargainful price of £6.99.

I then picked up the two NYX It List packs in Pinks and Nudes. I thought these would be a great way to try out different lines of NYX lip products that I'd heard people rave so much about. Each set contains a Butter Gloss, Mega Shine Gloss, Lip Plumper, Soft Matte Lip Cream and an Xtreme Shine lip Cream. I'm not going to run through swatches and shade names here - or we'll be here a while - again, I have a dedicated post coming up so keep an eye out for that - suffice to say for now that I've already purchased more of some of these, that's how quickly they've impressed me! Now, I paid £11-£12 for these in the States, here on the NYX UK website, each set is £22. Having tried them and knowing what my favourites are now, I probably wouldn't bother paying that for a full set - with some shades/types I don't necessarily love, but if you're looking to try out NYX lip products for the first time, then it's probably a fun way to do it (and, given the cost of the individual products in the UK, it's actually not bad value).

Lastly, and also from NYX (clearly I had decided NYX was the brand I wanted to try...apparently) I picked up the Center Stage set, which is six of their Jumbo Eye Pencils in mostly neutral shades with the addition of a white and a seriously bright blue. Again, full reviews and swatches to come. I have to say though, I'm not as impressed with these so far - I find they crease a little, but, I do love Milk (the white shade) as a base for making colours pop. I paid £12.08 for the set in the US - and I think it's totally worth it for that, in the UK, it's £22, for the amount you get, that's still pretty good.

And that's it for my Amazon.com haul - I hope you enjoyed it! What are your favourite US treats to get your paws on?

  1. I think amazon is a widely overlooked source of make up and really any other item out there. I once ordered 15 candelars from there for my wedding which costed me just 1/3 of the price i would have spend renting them (i even had to lend them out for two more weddings because people loved it so much). But yes also make up can be bought there and even the UK and the german version have several items available you can't get in the store. I always feel a bit safer to order at amazon than at a dubious webshop. Maybe i am waning myself in false security but it works for me.

    1. No, I feel exactly the same as you about the 'safety' of Amazon, maybe you're right and it doesn't make sense, but I definitely feel that way too!
I've found some gems on the UK Amazon site over the years too, I picked up a The Balm palette for less than half of what it was selling for elsewhere - it's just luck a lot of the time (or continual bargain hunting!!) lol

  2. So amazing that you could buy all those things on amazon, wish we could do this in the UK! I love all the NYX stuff you picked up and needless to say I'm super jealous of the Lorac Pro Palette, it's the most wanted product in the UK almost the blogging community and I am definitely one of those people, looks stunning! x

    1. I was so apprehensive that the Lorac palette wouldn't live up to the hype - 'cos like you said, there's a LOT of hype! - but I just love it so much; hopefully it makes it's way to the UK soon!

      Thanks for reading,
