Bourjois, along with Rimmel, is really my go to drugstore brand for face products - I love the primers, the concealers, the blushers ... well, you get the point. So, when recently my skin seemed to not being enjoying my beloved Wake Me Up Foundation so much, I naturally turned to Bourjois for some help.

One of the reasons I was drawn to the Healthy Mix Foundation is that it promises to leave skin "hydrated and luminous" - um yes please, I will take me some of that! Those are basically the two biggest issues I have with my skin; dryness and dullness, so this should have been a match made in heaven? Yeah, I thought so too...

The first issue I have with it, is that, while it swatches OK on my hand/arm, on my face this looks so yellow - like Simpsons yellow. Now, that's not to say the foundation itself is this shade, but its definitely reacting/mixing with something in my skin to look an odd shade indeed. It's also a little too dark for me, I mean, only slightly, but I think that, combined with the yellow tone, is just not a good look.

Application wise, I really like it though. It doesn't work well with a brush for me - it looks really patchy - but I love working it in with my fingers. It has quite a thick consistency and when it warms in your hands and you just rub it in, it gives such a lovely, smooth, pretty much full coverage.

Delightfully flattering foundation and nothing else on photo - lovely
Unfortunately, as nice as it looks when I first apply it, pretty soon the yellowness becomes glaringly apparent and, worse than that, this doesn't wear well on my skin. Like I said, I have dry skin - particularly between my eyebrows (I know, weird) and on my chin and cheeks. After a few hours this foundation is cake central on me  - and as well as clinging too and drying out some parts of my skin, it always slides off my nose! How is it possible to both stick and slip?! I don't have an oily nose and have never had this issue before!

I so badly wanted to like this foundation, I've worn it everyday for weeks and I've tried mixing it with various other things or using primers and powders, but alas, this one just does not like my skin - so I shall finish this bottle and then say goodbye to this sweet smelling nightmare!

Having said all that, foundation is a highly individual thing, the Healthy Mix Foundation costs £9.99  from Boots and is currently on a 3 for 2 so it's not exactly going to bankrupt you and even though it doesn't suit me, it might well work for you - particularly, I imagine, if you have a more yellow tone to your skin.

  1. Oh no that is such a shame! I have never tried this version but have the serum one and it's amazing on me I love it! I think that one would have suited your dry skin much better x

    1. A couple of people have said that to me, and I might give it a try if I ever finish this one! (How come when you hate a foundation, it seems to last forever?!?)
