Makeup Revolution Haul

When Makeup Revolution started making waves in the beauty world earlier in the year, I was nothing if not skeptical. I think it was the comparisons to MUA that did it, I mean, I recognise that MUA shadows are perfectly fine if you're on a budget or just getting started, but honestly, I was never that impressed with the brand. Makeup Revolution is, as far as I'm concerned, a totally different kettle of fish: I'm not sure if it compares to any other UK brand in terms of quality and price.

The other aspect of the brand that really appeals to me, is that it's not just like saying, "OK, there's a great nude eyeshadow palette, they've made it well and priced it brilliantly." - this isn't a company who is content to run with the herd and just try and make their own OK version of the usual staples; Makeup Revolution is innovative, unique and .... erm... Revolutionary, I guess.

(Also, I'm aware how much this sounds like sponsored content, it isn't, I just love this brand)

First up, I picked up four lipsticks - at just £1 each, it's hard not to. I'm not going to say these are the best lipsticks in the Universe, but for £1, could you really expect them to be? They are easily on a par with many drugstore offerings and they come in a great range of colours - perfect for trying something new out!

Nude - So this is from their matte range and I love a good ol' matte lip, and a nude... so this was a fairly easy choice. I love the shade, the formula is good - if not the longest lasting on the lips - but this lipstick does have a funny, not so nice smell. None of the rest I bought have it, so I don't know if it's the matte range or just this lipstick, but it is a little off putting for me.

Dusky - This is my most worn from the four, it's a shimmery, rose pink. I feel it goes rather well with my kinda ruddy complexion.

Treat - My least worn, Treat is a reddish orangish brown, on me anyway. I don't love the way it looks on me, but for £1 it's great to have the option.

CrimeA little similar to Mystic from Sleek, Crime is a very bold purple-pink. Not for the faint hearted, but this version is somewhat more wearable as it has a kinda satin finish as opposed to the slightly jarring matte finish on Sleek's.

I already own (and love) the pinkier blush palette - in Sugar and Spice - in fact, I love it so much, I couldn't resist picking up the Hot Spice variation. It's a very reddy, orange palette and truthfully, I don't love it as much. A couple of shades I just don't see working on me.  That being said, there are some gorgeous shades too, and for the £6 price tag, you really won't see me complaining - even higher end blush palettes have shades that aren't great on me.

I'm holding the incredible Miss Budget Beauty entirely responsible for me purchasing these! I had kind of toyed with trying out maybe one, I am, after all always on the hunt for an eyeliner that is awesome enough to take over from Urban Decay for me - I love those liners, but ouch, the prices, and anyway, of course, what did the lovely Khila say? That they're right up there with Urban Decay pencils, so, the bad news is, I ordered all six of them, the good news, is that she was totally right - these are amazing.

Left to Right on the swatches:

Channeling your Inner - a fantastic bronzey, brown shade, a great every day shade.
Dangerous Games - in the photo this looks like a badly pigmented black, it isn't it's just how the lights hitting it. It's acutally a very lovely metallic blue toned grey.
The Last Laugh - A beautiful golden shade, so metallic and just so prrreeetty
One Sin Too Many - A black, not as pigmented as like Perversion from Urban Decay, but nothing is. This is very, very good.
Stars Come Out - This is a black with silvery blue glitter running throughout. I love this, but I'll admit I haven't reached for it as much as the others.
Lustful Ways - Ah, my favourite, surprisingly. This is a kind of seafoam green with an almost blue duochrome feel to it - very unique and surprisingly flattering on my eyes.

Honestly, these are everything you could want them to be; pigmented, creamy, easy to work with, a great colour range... oh and did I mention they're £1.99 each?

And lastly, and not terribly well photographed - my bad - I picked up the I Heart Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette for £7.99. For anyone whose not as familiar with the whole thing, this is a dupe for the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette (£45). I actually don't have an issue spending that kind of money on eyeshadow (assuming it's worth it), no, the reason I've never bought the Chocolate Bar palette is because my eyes reacted badly to the last scented eyeshadow I tried - from Anna Sui - and I worried about spending £45 on makeup I couldn't then use.

The Makeup Revolution palette is very good and to be honest, even if the scent thing wasn't an issue I think I'd still be happy with just this one. The quality of the shadows is great the colours are well thought out - I really love it. Also, I think but can't be sure, it might be slightly scented (does anyone know?), but it doesn't irritate my eyes at all. I didn't swatch it in full for you here as there are a lot of shades and I will be doing a full post on it soon.

And that is everything I ordered from Makeup Revolution this time around - I already have another wishlist building though! What have you tried from Makeup Revolution? Anything you recommend, or think I should avoid?

  1. When first trying out this brand I was disappointed at some of the products as they weren't what I had expected, but after a while I have become to really appreciate them as a brand. While everything might not be to my liking, their eyeshadows are amazing quality for the price amongst other things. I just have to realise that for a budget brand not everything might be to my standards. I love the blush palette and the chocolate one too, they are my favourites so far x

    1. Yeah, I've loved almost everything I've tried, but there's some things I'm tempted to pick up but I kinda *know* I'll be disappointed in, just because I'm really picky with some products. I'm actually surprised I like the shadows from MUR as much as I do - I can be really pedantic about which ones I use!!

    1. It's dangerous placing an order though, lol, be warned! I always mean to pick up 'a couple of things' and then everything on their site just looks so, so good!
