Lipstick Queen Discovery Trio

Lipstick Queen Discovery Trio

Lipstick Queen is one of those brands that I have ogled from afar and lusted over in Space NK, but, I have never actually bought because WOWZER those prices!! No matter how many bloggers raved about them, I just couldn't convince myself that they'd be worth the price - not for me anyway. At £20-£22 each could they really be that much better than MAC lipsticks?

But, prices aside (because I mean, aren't they always 'aside' when it comes to something seriously pretty?) I was so intrigued by the brand I chose out what I would 'hypothtically' buy, if, I was going to buy something, I mean I wasn't or anything, but if I was...

So I found the Discovery Kit on feelunique.com - it cost £40 and contained 3 full size, sheer shades. Perfect, thought I, so often I feel like high end means bold finishes - but I'm a complete sheer lip lover, so for me, the idea of getting really good sheer lips was pretty perfect.

But £40, huh?

Well I added to the (ever expanding) wishlist and thought no more about it to be honest, I do not have £40 to spend on lipstick at the moment, so thanks, but no thanks ... well, until I happened upon the Discovery Kit for £15 in TK Maxx! Possibly one of my best finds ever in the sticky, damaged depths of the TK Maxx beauty section.

Anyway, the three shades are Saint - a sheer, pinky nude, Butterfly - a sheer, purply pink with a blue iridescence running through and Medieval - a sheer, deep red. It's a good mix for sure. Colour wise I love all three; Saint is fresh, girly and the perfect finish to a natural makeup look. Butterfly is teeth whitening - thanks to the blue shimmer, which, don't panic, doesn't actually translate to 'blue' on the lips - it's wearable and a little different and Medieval is a great everyday red that's got a great classic feel to it.

And some shots of Saint on me; s'cuse the dressing gown and Minne PJ top folks, I wasn't planning on taking photos or going anywhere!

In terms of formula, think of these like super luxurious, high end Revlon Lip Butters. These are smooth, kind to the lips, wearable, perfectly, evenly pigmented and surprisingly long wearing. They are, hands down, the best sheer lip colours I've ever worn.

Whether or not they are 'worth' the high end price tag, is really a personal opinion of course, but for me, if I had £40 to comfortably spend on lipsticks I would absolutely purchase this and enjoy every application, and every makeup look from it. However I currently don't have that to blow on makeup and, while I could save up, I don't personally know if I think that's worth it, when the drugstore does have great offerings like the Revlon Lip Butters.
