What's on my Face: May (Sniffle Chic)

What's on my Face:

Ah, the head cold. Definitely one of the most frustrating experiences in life. You feel like crap, like utter crap but you're also not really 'ill' so you can't modify your life in any way. No calling in sick to work, no getting out of cooking dinner when you get home - nope, you just have to go through normal life... while feeling rotten. (Can you tell I've had a cold this past week and am feeling a bit sorry for myself?!?!)

A lot of the time if I'm not well, I'm all for using makeup as a mask to defy the situation: bold brows, defined eyes and a striking lipstick will generally cheer me up and stop anyone from having a clue I'm under the weather, but, a head cold with a fever that sees my nose running constantly, my brow sweating and me covering my hand to cough every three minutes... well I'm sure you could picture the mess I'd get into with the likes of MAC Venom on my lips! So with a sniffly, snotty cold like this I avoid the temptation to try and hide the situation altogether and instead go for light, kinda healthy looking makeup that won't look terrible as it inevitably gets sweated and wiped off over the course of a day at work.
I'm really into the Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturiser at the moment anyway, but I love it even more when I'm sick because it has a great glow to it and just the right amount of coverage to look natural without showing too much of the mess beneath! Other essentials to the look are the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly, which is brightening and has great coverage for my substantial under eye bags, and the good old Rimmel Scandaleyes Liner in Nude - hiding the red in your water line is a really fast and easy way to look instantly healthier and less tired.

For my eyes, I did line under my top lashes with the Urban Decay Black Market 24/7 Glide on Pencil, to try and add a bit more oomph to my lashes and therefore, hopefully, draw a little more attention there. I had neither the strength nor the time to start messing about with 17 eyeshadow shades as I normally do and so just washed some of Stila's Kitten shadow over my lids for a little shimmer and cheer.

And to finish off, I omitted bronzer altogether (trust me, I'd be fooling nobody ...) and went for a muted, nude pink blush in the form of The Balm's Cider - easy to dab onto the cheeks and looks believable. And for lips, I went for a sheer, my lips but better look in the form of Lipstick Queen's Saint Pink - soft and gentle on the lips, and so sheer you can touch up without a mirror if need be after sneeze number 16,756.

And so that's unfortunately the look I've been rocking this past week or so. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go make a Lem Sip and blow my nose...
